 History Note

January 3, 1777 – During the American Revolution, General George Washington defeated the British at Princeton and drove them back toward New Brunswick.  Washington then established winter quarters at Morristown, New Jersey.  During the long harsh winter, Washington’s army shrank to about a thousand men as enlistments expired and deserters fled.

 Did You Know?

On the Vietnam Wall, each name is marked with either a diamond or a cross, with the diamond denoting that the soldier’s death was confirmed.  About 1,300 names are marked with a cross, signifying that the person was either missing in action or a prisoner at the end of the war, remaining unaccounted for.  If a person marked as MIA is found, a circle is placed around the cross.  The soldiers are listed chronologically in the order in which they were lost.

Thought for the Day:

“The glow of one warm thought is to me worth more than money.”
