Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA)
DeCA is an acronym for the Defense Commissary Agency.

From Ankara, Turkey, to Yuma, Ariz., DeCA operates 238 commissaries on military installations around the world.

Founded in 1991, DeCA is a 'purple' agency and is responsible for all commissaries regardless of military service. Prior to 1991, each military service ran its own commissaries.

Who can shop?
Authorized shoppers include active duty, retirees, National Guard and Reserves and their family members.

Customers buy groceries at cost plus a 5 percent surcharge which is used to fund commissary construction and renovations. Authorized patrons save thousands of dollars annually on their purchases compared to commercial prices when shopping regularly at a commissary. The discounted prices include a 5-percent surcharge, which covers the costs of building new commissaries and modernizing existing ones.
